Privacy Policy
Effective Date: November 2024
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Ditch Ads ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Ditch Ads browser extension (the "Extension") and the website at ditchads.com (the "Website"). Ditch Ads is a browser extension that removes ads from the pages you visit for faster, cleaner browsing.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at support@ditchads.com.
2. Information We Collect
Ditch Ads is built to respect your privacy. Your allowlist and settings are stored locally on your device. The Extension does not require an account and does not ask for personal information such as your name, postal address, or payment details.
We may collect limited, non-identifying information, including:
- Automatically collected data — basic technical information such as browser type and general, aggregated usage patterns that help us keep the Extension working correctly.
- Attribution data — when you install the Extension from a landing page, we may record limited referral or campaign information (for example, which page or source led to the install) to understand how users discover Ditch Ads.
To deliver its core function, the Extension uses certain browser capabilities — content filtering (declarativeNetRequest and web request handling), access to the active tab and tabs you choose to allowlist, local storage, cookies, alarms, and optional search integration. These capabilities operate locally in your browser to block ads and manage your allowlist; they are not used to build a profile of you.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Extension and Website.
- To block ads and apply your allowlist preferences as you browse.
- To understand how users find and install Ditch Ads (attribution).
Legal basis (GDPR). Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies, we process limited data on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service, and/or on the basis of your consent where required.
4. Cookies and Tracking
The Website may use cookies or similar technologies for attribution (to record how an install was referred) and for basic preferences. The Extension uses browser cookie and storage capabilities to operate its features and remember your allowlist. We do not use cookies to track your browsing across unrelated websites.
You can disable or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not prevent the Extension from functioning, though some attribution may not be recorded.
5. We Do Not Sell Your Personal Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data, and we do not sell your browsing history. Consistent with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), we confirm that Ditch Ads does not sell the personal information of any user, including California residents.
6. Data Retention
Your allowlist and settings remain on your device until you change or remove them. Any limited attribution or technical data is kept only as long as necessary for the purposes described above and is then deleted or aggregated. You may request deletion of any data associated with you by contacting support@ditchads.com.
7. Your Rights
GDPR (EU/EEA users). If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Request rectification of inaccurate data;
- Request erasure of your data;
- Request restriction of processing;
- Data portability;
- Object to processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@ditchads.com. This is also our contact point for any data-related matters.
CCPA (California users). California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion of that information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (not applicable, as we do not sell personal data). We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
8. Third-Party Services
The Extension is distributed through Mozilla Add-ons (AMO). Your download and installation through that platform are subject to Mozilla's own privacy policy. The Extension does not share your information with advertisers or other third parties.
9. Children's Privacy
Ditch Ads is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Extension or Website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
